Gold and bronze for Parentini equipped Team Danmark!

The last day of the European Track Championships in Glasgow, UK, saw Amalie Dideriksen and Julie Leth put their Parentini Speed suits to great use winning the Women’s Madison. Up against world class opposition such as the Dutch team of Kirsten Wild and Amy Pieters and the home crowd’s favourites, Laura Kenny and Katie Archibold, the Danish pair looked to be out of the running for any medal with only 1 point picked up in the sprints after 30 laps. But roughly half way in the race, a Russian rider attacked and the Danes flew after them. The two teams worked well and managed to grab a lap and with it 20 points. With this renewed confidence and a chance for Gold, Dideriksen and Leth picked up more points in the remaining sprints and with none of the stronger teams able to pick up a lap the Danes did enough to ensure the Gold medal before the final sprint.

Despite being a World Champion on the road, Amalie was very happy with her teams’ race. “I am so proud of our result. We went into the race with a plan but adjusted to the race and grabbed a chance to take a lap. It wasn’t easy and I wasn’t a flawless ride, but we fought hard and secured the win before the final sprint. It was an amazing feeling riding those final laps knowing we would finish the race as winners. I am looking forward to ride in the jersey when the track season begins for real this winter.”

Along with compatriat Trine Schmidt, the Team are now aiming to take Gold in the Madison at Tokyo.

Amalie and Julie’s Gold added to Team Danmark’s Bronze medal, picked up by Casper Folsach in the Men’s Omnium. Some consistent riding taking 6th in the Scratch and Tempo disciplines meant Casper still had an outside chance for a medal coming into the last event – the Points race. But it would mean him taking a lap, and the opportunity finally came when Spain’s Albert Torres attacked. Folsach and eventual Gold medal winner, Britain’s Ethan Hayter, went with Torres and finally caught the main group and with it 20 points each. This points haul meant Folsach tied with Elia Viviani, but the Italian took Silver because of his results in the lap sprints.

Congratulations to all Team Danmark’s European Track riders –they did the red speed suits proud!
