RUSVELO TEAM - GP SOCHI (RUSSIA)

ILNUR ZAKARIN WIN GP SOCHI (RUSSIA)

2014, April 1st
RusVelo riders Sergey Lagutin and Ilnur Zakarin came in first and second in the opening stage of GP of Sochi. The 185 roller-coaster course brought about a serious selection, resulting in an escape of seven riders, three of them in RusVelo colors. The Ukrainian Vitaly Buts rounded off the top-3; yet another RusVelo rider Roman Maikin crossed the line third.

The race scenario on the second day of the race around the winter Olympics capital was completely dictated by RusVelo team. The short stage, by pro cycling standards, just 128 km in and around the city of Anapa, was full of action because of a persistent side wind and a hilly profile. The Ukrainian riders from KOLLS and ISD teams did their best to take the race out of control of RusVelo. Yet the Russians neutralized all the escape attempts and arrived as a complete squad to the finishing stretch in the leading group of 14. Roman Maikin won the sprint with the teammate Igor Boev finishing close second. Vitaly Buts (KOLLS) came in third, like the day before.

2014, April 3rd
Ilnur Zakharin is the new leader of GP of Sochi. It all went almost 100 per cent as planned for RusVelo team in the ITT at the 3rd stage of GP of Sochi. Russian time trial champion Ilnur Zakarin finished second, half a minute behind his compatriot Alexander Evtushenko (Russian Helicopters), and took over the yellow jersey, as the now former leader Sergey Lagutin had predicted a day earlier. Dmitri Kosyakov (Itera-Katusha) set the 3rd fastest time. The 11 km-long hilly course in the seaside resort of Anapa, ridden there and back via a U-turn, proved rather demanding, because of the strong wind rather than the profile.

2014, April 4th
The Austrian rider Michael Gogl (GEBRÜDER WEISS – OBERNDORFER) won the bunch uphill sprint, the Ukrainian Oleksandr Sheydyk came in second and RusVelo’s Andrey Solomennikov was third. Ilnur Zakharin maintain the Leadership of GP of Sochi.

2014, April 6th
RusVelo team won the individual, team and points standings of the GP of Sochi. RusVelo’s Ilnur Zakarin was the Leader and Sergey Lagutin came up on the second step of the final GP podium and Roman Maikin won the points jersey ahead of Vitaly Buts.
