FIVE RINGS OF MOSCOW (RUSSIA)

FIVE RINGS OF MOSCOW (RUSSIA)

2014, May 7th.
RusVelo rider Igor Boev won the bunch sprint in the second stage of the race set in the Russian capital, ahead of Anriy Kulik (Ukraine, KOLSS) and the fellow countryman, World scratch champion Ivan Kovalev (Russian Helicopters). The peloton covered 165 km of a dead flat course (fifteen 11 km-long laps) in 3:56:42. A sprint finish was deceptively easy to predict, bad weather had its say, as it suddenly started snowing heavily during the opening laps, then the sun looked out and the temperature started to rise, but it remained windy until the end.

2014, May 8th.
RusVelo team delivered a breathtaking performance in the queen stage of the Five Rings of Moscow, traditionally a decider for all the principal classifications of the race. 163 km of extremely hilly profile combined with thousands of turns gave the winner’s honors to Sergey Lagutin, who crossed the line just ahead of the RusVelo teammate Andrey Solomennikov. Andrey, winner here just a couple of days ago at the Memorial of Oleg Dyachenko, took over the leader’s jersey; Olexandr Polivoda, a Ukrainian from KOLSS, came in third. Yet another RusVelo rider Ivan Balykin was fourth in just his second career try on Krylatskoye, and came up to third in general standings. Last but not least, RusVelo now is more than twelve minutes clear of the nearest rivals in the team classification.

2014, May 9th.
RusVelo rider Igor Boev won the fourth and last stage of Five Rings of Moscow, held on a Sadovoye Circle, 124 km, eight 15,2 km-long laps around the center of the Russian capital. As usual, the race here was decided in a bunch sprint, marked this time by an impeccable lead-out by the Russian team train. Mamyr Stash (Itera-Katusha) finished second and yet another RusVelo sprinter Roman Maikin rounded out the top-3. RusVelo never eased its grip on the yellow jersey keeping the race under control from start to finish. Anrey Solomennikov and Sergey Lagutin (RusVelo) took first and second place in the general individual standings, Ukrainian Olexandr Polivoda (KOLSS) was third in and  RusVelo’s Ivan Balykin fourth, off from the podium.
Balykin, Boev, Sergey Klimov, Lagutin, Maikin, Solomennikov (RusVelo) finished 12.31 ahead of KOLSS in the team standings. Igor Boev (RusVelo) won the points points classifications. Alexander Efimkin, the youngest DS of RusVelo, celebrates his third stage race victory with his team.
